Masterpieces/Disasterpieces
Project Description:We have all had memorable experiences in our lives, and sometimes we want to capture them forever. For this project we picked a memorable moment in our lives and wrote a short story about it. It could be about ourselves, someone else, about something sad, or happy, but, most importantly, it had to be meaningful to us.

"The World's Best Medicine"Below is a short excerpt from my piece:
“Let’s keep going,” suggested Amy, Michelle’s mom, “We just got into Utah, plus this hotel looks weird.” “We could do that,” Michelle and I agreed. “But maybe we should just check out the inside first.” It was just after midnight, we’d been driving for 13 hours, and we were all utterly exhausted. Amy turned the car into the hotel parking lot, gravel crunching under the wheels. She pulled the car around to the loading zone of the hotel. There were only two other cars in the parking lot. Granted, we were in some middle-of-no-where town. This was not a place you’d expect to find this kind of stately hotel. Four towering columns beckoned us inside. We got out of the car, but didn’t take anything with us--just in case we decided to keep going. Walking into the hotel lobby, an artificial smell of hospitality tried to welcome us. In unison, we wrinkled our noses at the assault. Not a good sign of things to come. The lobby was full of silence, broken only by the hum of the Coca Cola machine. Michelle looked at me. We both seemed to be struck by the incongruence--beautiful, inviting exterior and creepy, dingy interior. |
