Drawings of Eyes and Mouths
Sketchbook Cover Collage
Self Portrait: Pencil
Here is my original self portrait. I traced it from a photo of myself and then tried to match all of my features and the shading as accurately as I could. I spent about a week on this, making sure that it was the best work I could produce. In the end, I think this is one of the best portraits I have ever done.

Self Portrait: Pen (Line)
Here is an outline (line drawing) of the portrait above. I went through at least 5 drafts before arriving at this final one. The thing that challenged me the most was making the mouth, because it can be hard to make something without using a lot of detail. While this was a challenging piece of art, I found it to be quite fun!

Portrait of Author: Roald Dahl
After reading Boy: Tales of Childhood by Roald Dahl (his autobiography) I made a wood cut-out portrait of him. On the left you can see the final product. I used ripped up pieces of books and magazines. On the right you can see the original photo of Roald Dahl.
Here is a close-up detail shot of his eye. This is my favorite part of the piece because if shows the intricacy of the work. |
Derivative Water Color Cartoon
I chose to do a watercolor of Stitch, from Lilo & Stich. The first one is just what Stitch normally looks like. But the second one is distorted. I wanted to work on originality, so I took Stitch and changed some things about him (clothes and ears).
This was the first time I had really worked with watercolor, and by the time I did my second piece, I feel I had improved a lot. I felt like I was using more water, and less paint. |
Watercolors
For all of these paintings I practiced painting with watercolors. In the beginning I thought it wasn't going to be very hard, but by the end I realized that it can be more difficult that one might think! I also think they turned out pretty well, considering I haven't used watercolors a lot in the past.

Basquiat Painting
This is my Basquiat painting. It is definitely one of the most unique paintings I have ever done. I especially enjoyed this painting because it is a collaborative piece. Once I felt I couldn't do anymore, I passed it on to someone else, who then painting over something I did, and then gave it make to me. This, I think, makes it something special.

Faces of Art History: Os Gemeos
For this art piece I researched different artists from around the world, and then recreated one of their portraits. The artist that I chose was Os Gemeos. This is the second piece of art that I have done this year with acrylics and I find that the more I use them, the easier they become. For this painting I had to create and mix a lot of colors, and by the end, through experimentation and practice, I can now successfully mix colors to my preference.

From Human to Animation: Rumpelstiltskin
This art piece is another one of the most unique things I have ever done. I started with a character from a TV show (Rumpelstiltskin from ABC's Once Upon A Time) and made him into an animation. I really wanted to challenge myself, so I decided to make him an inanimate object, as opposed to a humanoid. I turned Rumpelstiltskin into a briefcase because he always wears a lot of stiff leather. I enjoyed using my art skills in a digital medium for a change.
I started by taking Rempulstiltskin and making different variations of him, until I made one that I really liked (upper left-hand corner). Next, I took that drawing and improved on it before I scanned it into photoshop (upper right-hand corner). I then took my second draft and uploaded it into phtotshop and colored it (bottom left-hand corner). You can click on the images to make them larger. |
Fauxasis
For this project we wanted to make a renewable oasis. We were environmentally friendly by using almost 100% recycled materials. I worked with Killian and used a tire as our base to hold up our tree. We used cardboard from boxes and stick we found around on the ground. We are very happy with our final product and think it reflects our hard work.
